List of plants on our Floral Marquee exhibit
Hardy’s 10m x 10m exhibit has some nice hard landscaping elements including a walk through path (paving by Marshalls), a water feature and metal swing seat and some architectural detail courtesy of the seven gorgeous hornbeams 1st used last year and now being recycled for 2012. Rosy’s method of gardening although neither organic nor 100 percent sustainable does certainly include more than a nod to sustainable practices – with her old fashioned approach to putting plants in the correct type of soil in the appropriate aspect so as to require minimal watering and ensuring as long a lifespan as possible (Right Plant Right Place).
Each year Rosy draws from thousands of varieties, some brand new such as this year’s Osteospermum ‘in The Pink’ and also new is Leucanthemum ’Freak!’
Rosy also selects some of her ‘old favourites’ and this year it’s the turn of Gaura lindheimeri ‘Ruby Ruby’, runner up in the inaugural RHS plant of the year competition a couple of years ago and one of Hardys Cottage Garden Plants best introductions. This plant boasts a super long flowering season. Digitalis ‘Suttons Apricot’ is always a winner and offers great colour and is a reliable shade lover.
For excellent ground cover Viola ‘cornuta’ comes up trumps and for pond areas Rosy recommends Primula ‘beesiana’ which comes in great colours and bees love them. For dramatic foliage and an alternative to the gunnera, Rheum palmatum is great and more reliable. For an unusual woodland edging plant Rosy selects Thalictrum tuberosum as it is not invasive but reliable.
