MALVACEAE

Hollyhock is a popular border perennial, which produces tall spires of large flowers. They are now available in a wide range of colours, from pure white, to near black, with the exception of blue and green.

There are about 50 species, which are found on rocky slopes, mainly in Asia, but also in areas of Turkey.

They grow best in full sun, preferring a reasonably fertile, good soil, but most will grow in drier situations with poor soil, once established.
