GYPSOPHILA
CARYOPHYLLACEAE
Baby’s Breath ranges from the small, low-growing alpine species, to the tall border perennials, to which the common name refers. The latter produce clouds of small white or pink flowers and are ideal for cutting.
There are almost 100 species, both annual and perennial, which grow mainly on stony or sandy alkaline soils in the eastern Mediterranean, through central Asia and into northwestern China.
All species do best on well-drained soil in full sun, especially if the soil is alkaline. Winter wet will not be tolerated.
