Dead Nettle is grown for both foliage and flower and makes excellent ground cover. Many of the wild species are considered weeds and are not in cultivation.

There are some 50 evergreen and deciduous species, which originate from woodland areas in Europe, Asia and North Africa.

They grow best in moist soil, in sun or part shade, but will tolerate drier areas once established.
