LYCHNIS

LYCHNIS

CARYOPHYLLACEAE

Known as Campion or Catchfly, this genus includes some of Britain’s native wildflowers. They are grown for their many clusters of flowers, which are often brightly coloured. The common names are also used to refer to the genus Silene.

There are about 20 species, which grow in a wide range of habitats across the northern hemisphere’s temperate and arctic regions.

Most will grow in sun or part-shade and a well-drained soil, although some species require more moisture and can even be grown as a bog plant.
