Obedient Plant produces upright spikes of white, pink or purple flowers and is so called because each individual flower can be carefully positioned to point in any direction and remain there.

There are about 12 species, native to the grasslands of North America, although only one is found in cultivation. 

They will grow in sun or part-shade, but prefer a reasonably moist soil.
