Woundwort is often grown as a ground-cover plant, valued for its foliage, but many also have attractive clusters of pink, lilac or purple flowers.

There are some 300 species, which grow in a wide range of habitats throughout most of the world’s temperate and sub-tropical areas.

Most, especially varieties with hairy, silver leaves, require well-drained soil in full sun and are happy in nutrient-poor areas. Others will tolerate shade or prefer a moist soil.
