Columbine is a short-lived perennial, but is easily grown from seed. Their large flowers come in a range of colours and they are ideal for early summer interest.
There are about 70 species, all of which originate from the northern hemisphere, across North America, Europe and Asia.
Most will grow best in a reasonably well-drained soil in a sunny spot. Deadhead plants regularly to prolong flowering.
