COLCHICACEAE
Fairy Bells is a pretty shade-lover, which is grown for its foliage, flowers and subsequent berries. The flowers are usually white, green or yellow, but sometimes pink or purple, followed by red, black or purple fruit.
There are up to 30 species found mainly in Asia, from the Himalayas to Japan, and some in North America. About eight of these are common in cultivation.
They do best in woodland areas, with part-shade and well-drained, but humus-rich soil.
