DRYOPTERIS

Wood fern or buckler fern some 300 species throughout the northern hemisphere.

Growing in woodlands or damp places, these tufted rhizomatous ferns are easy to grow. Mostly erect with lanceolate fronds with toothed segments.

These are valuable plants for the shade garden, with many good garden varieties widely available.

Once they are established the mature plants are well adapted to drought conditions.
