They have a large distribution including the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
They are showy late summer to autumn flowering plants commonly known as “Ironweed”. They are predominately purple in colour although occasionally pink and rarely white, with flat tubular flowerheads.
They are a great addition to the late herbaceous border being tall and erect in stature.
