Globe Thistle is an attractive, architectural plant that produces spiny, spherical buds, which open into flower from the top down.

There are over 120 species, mainly perennial and biennial, which can be found in dry grassland or on rocky hillsides across the Mediterranean and in central Asia and the African mountain regions.

These plants are easy to grow in virtually any situation or soil type, with the exception of heavy shade, although well-drained soil in full sun is the ideal.
