ASTERACEAE
Joe Pye Weed is a tall plant that is ideal for naturalistic planting or the back of a mixed border. They are valued for attracting insects, especially butterflies, and also for their late flowering season.
There are about 40 diverse species of annuals and both evergreen and deciduous perennials, native to Europe, Africa, Asia and North and South America. They are found in a wide range of locations from dry, sunny areas, through woodlands and into swampland.
Most varieties prefer sun or part-shade and require a moderately moist soil, and will wilt quickly if allowed to dry out during the summer.
